About analyses

A Scenario 360 analysis is a means of evaluating an issue or opportunity. An analysis includes alternative approaches (“scenarios”), input, analysis, outcomes, and decisions.  In Scenario 360, an analysis provides the overall framework for a project.  It includes all of the map data, scenarios, calculations, and indicators for the various alternatives you may consider when evaluating an issue or opportunity.  A Scenario 360 analysis is comparable to a Microsoft® Word "document", PowerPoint "presentation", or Excel "workbook".

Before starting a new Scenario 360 analysis, it is helpful to frame your analysis question in terms of alternatives you want to consider and indicators Indicators are the impact or performance measures that help people choose alternatives that best match their objectives or desired outcomes. An indicator is a calculated value that represents the impacts or outcomes of a scenario. Indicator results are automatically recalculated as you experiment with alternatives and the results can be displayed in a chart. Indicators apply to an entire scenario. An indicator might be used to evaluate costs, revenues, average household size, "community benefit", or total daily auto trips. that you want to measure.  This way you can more easily identify the required data, assumptions An assumption is a value that is used as input to an analysis and it is often changeable. Assumptions apply to an entire scenario. For example, your assumptions about water consumption per household will impact the indicator for total water consumption for a scenario. Assumptions can also be a way to express subjective inputs, such as how much weighting to give to a particular community value like open space or economic development. Output values that depend on a particular assumption are automatically updated when the assumption is changed and you click the Apply button., and calculations. It is often helpful to start by listing the components of your issue or opportunity, then examining their relationships before entering them into Scenario 360. Each alternative that you want to consider can be created as an individual scenario within the analysis.

It is important to evaluate your available data as well as the components of your issue when planning an effective analysis.  A successful analysis leverages available data in ways that enable the creation of useful indicators pertinent to the decision-making issues at hand.

Once you have created an analysis, you can use the Scenario 360 toolbar and the 360 Analysis tab to explore and experiment with your analysis.
