Using the WebShots wizard

When you open the WebShots wizard, it will be populated with default settings.  If you are in doubt about which values to use, simply accept the defaults.

For information on navigating through the wizard, refer to Moving between screens in the WebShots wizard.

There can be only one WebShots output per analysis.

WebShots uses the screen layouts and variable assumptions settings that were in place when it was launched.  Refer to Before starting the WebShots wizard for more information.  If you want to change those settings, click the second choice answer and proceed.  Otherwise accept the default answer.

Choose Scenario

This list displays all the scenarios currently in your analysis.  Place a check next to the scenario or scenarios you want to include.  To place a check, click on the box.  To clear a check, click on the box again.  You must choose at least one scenario and you may choose up to 5 scenarios.  If you want to rename a scenario, exit the wizard and rename the scenario using Scenario properties.

Choose Assumptions

This list displays all the assumptions currently in your analysis.  Of these, you may choose from 0 to 5 to be variable by WebShots viewers.  The other assumptions will be set to their existing values for the WebShots presentation.

Viewers will be able to choose one WebShots-variable assumption at a time and will be able to experiment with up to 5 settings for that assumption in addition to its default setting, which is always included.  The other WebShot assumptions will be set to their default values when they are not being varied.

You will select the possible settings for WebShot-variable assumptions in a later screen.

Place a check next to the assumption or assumptions you want to use.  To place a check, click on the box.  To clear a check, click on the box again.

Affected components

This screen is for your reference.  It displays the indicators, charts and attributes whose values are affected by the assumptions you have just chosen.  WebShots pre-calculates all permutations during its setup phase, so setup can take a long time depending on the number of scenarios, assumptions, and assumption settings you use.  We recommend checking this list to see if there are any indicators or attributes that involve time-consuming calculations.  If so, you may want to change the list of viewer-variable assumptions.  Some factors that make calculations take a long time include a large number of features, complex formulas, and spatial calculations.

Choose discrete settings for assumptions

Use this screen to choose up to 5 possible values for the assumption being displayed.  Also specify a default value which, optionally, can be different for each scenario.

The top box is for your reference only and displays the properties of the assumption.  To change these properties, exit the wizard and edit the assumption properties using the Edit Assumption window.  Refer to Setting up assumptions.

The center box allows you to specify the assumption values you want WebShots to use.  Each assumption can have 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 values in addition to its default value, which is always included.  These are used in addition to the assumption’s default value.

For numeric assumptions:

For list of text and list of number assumptions:

For Yes/No assumptions:

The bottom box allows you to set default values for this assumption for each scenario.  You may accept the existing value if one is displayed, or click in the box to get a list of allowable alternatives.

Choose and Label WebShots

You can present your WebShots as a partly interactive website in which viewers can change scenarios and assumptions, and you can present them as a sequential slide show.  Both are optional.  Use this screen to specify which combinations of scenarios and assumption settings you want to include.

Normally, all boxes are checked for the Explore module so that your viewers have complete flexibility to explore.  Normally you select only some of the views for your slide show, using them to outline a “story” that explains your analysis and findings.  You will be able to change the order of the slide show slides on a later screen.

In the Description field that appears at the far right side of the table, click the icon to add text that will appear at the top of the WebShots viewer when that particular slide is showing.  The descriptions are optional, but they will help your viewers interpret the maps and data they are seeing.  To delete a description, click the delete icon. If the description field is not showing, drag on the borders between the columns in the table to make them narrow so that you can see the column on the far right.

Tip:  You can check all boxes or clear all boxes in a column by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking.

Tip:  You can make the columns wider and narrower by dragging on the dividing line between columns in the header of the table.

Slide show order

This screen displays the slides you chose to show in an earlier screen.  Use this screen to specify the order you want the slides to appear when they are displayed to website viewers.  To move a slide up or down in the order, highlight its row and then click the up or down arrows at the bottom of the screen.

Assumptions to display

Use this screen to specify any assumptions you want to appear in WebShots displays in addition to WebShots-variable assumptions.

These assumptions will be displayed with the fixed values they had when the WebShots wizard was run, and viewers will not be able to change them.

Indicators to display

Use this screen to specify any indicators you want to appear in WebShots displays.  To minimize processing time during the WebShots pre-processing step, choose as few indicators as possible.  The indicator values displayed will be based on the variable assumption settings the viewer has chosen.

Charts to display

Use this screen to specify charts you want to appear in WebShots displays.  The chart values displayed will result from the variable assumption settings the viewer has chosen.

For performance reasons, charts may only contain a single item.

The WebShots display only shows the charts that appear when you choose Active Scenario at the top of the charts window in Scenario 360.

Descriptions

This screen is optional.  Use it to view and/or edit the descriptions that will appear with your analysis components.  Use the drop-down boxes to work with descriptions for different scenarios and assumptions.  Your text will be saved when you choose a different item from the drop-down.  Place a check in the boxes if you want the edits you make here to overwrite the descriptions being used in the rest of Scenario 360 for that particular component.

Title and Author

The information you provide here will be displayed on the WebShots web pages you are creating.  You may leave these fields blank if desired.

Link to Reports

You can create a hyperlink in your WebShots web pages to web-ready reports you created using the Scenario 360 Reports Wizard.  The list is pre-populated with any reports that already exist in the Reports folder of your analysis, with path names like C:\CVFiles\MyAnalysis\Reports\MyAnalysis Summary\Report.htm. Refer to Sharing analyses and Creating reports for more information on reports.  You can add other reports to the list by browsing to them using the Browse button at the bottom of the list.

Finish

When you press Finish, WebShots will begin pre-calculating all the possible permutations of scenario and assumption settings among the choices you have allowed.  This process may take a long time.  Refer to WebShots performance considerations for details and suggestions on how to reduce this time.

WebShots creates a folder containing several sub-folders and two .htm files.  Be sure to keep the entire folder intact, and provide all of its contents to your webmaster for posting to the website.  The .htm files will not work by themselves.
